Gnanam QuanTech

About

I'm Bala Annamalai, a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries with some twenty years in life and health insurance, most of it spent building, migrating, and validating the models insurers run their businesses on.

For six of those years I worked inside FIS on Prophet itself — the platform much of the industry uses — building models for insurers across EMEA and training their actuarial teams. Since then I have led model-platform migrations and transformations as a consulting actuary for insurers in the UK, Europe, the US, and Asia: moving annuity models between vendor platforms, rebuilding asset models for regulatory capital, and developing IFRS 17 valuation models. I have worked under Solvency II, IFRS 17, US GAAP, and NAIC RBC frameworks.

The pattern under all of that work: insurers own models they cannot fully open. Gnanam (ஞானம்) — the Tamil word for wisdom — exists to build the alternative: modelling engines whose methodology, code, and validation evidence are all inspectable and published openly.

Two companies sit behind this site. Gnanam QuanTech Limited publishes the modelling engines, open and free. Agaram Actuarial Limited is the consulting company and the commercial arm — fitting, calibration, migration, and independent review engagements are delivered and contracted through it. The separation is deliberate: the models are not a brochure for the services, and the services never gate the models.

Alongside the FIA, I hold an MBA in Finance, a BSc in Mathematics, and I am a Fellow of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India.
